A total of 8.0 m/kgs came under the hammer this week.  Low growns continued to meet better demand whilst High and Mid grown Small Leaf teas encountered yet another disappointing sale.

Ex-estate offerings comprised of 1.1 m/kgs.  Overall quality of teas on offer showed no significant change and a bearish market sentiment continued.  BOPs lost upto Rs.10/- per kg whilst the BOPFs although witnessed better demand, were marginally easier to last.  Nuwara Eliya BOPs were a weak feature whilst the BOPFs continued to strengthen on last week's high prices.  Liquoring leafy teas were selectively dearer particularly the brighter sorts.  There was better demand for the CTC varieties which witnessed a firm to dearer trend all round in keeping with prices realized at this week's Mombasa auction.

Off grades were a lower feature whilst there was better demand for the Dust varieties which witnessed a dearer trend in prices.

This week's  Low growns totalled 3.8 m/kgs in the Leafy/Tippy catalogues.  There was good demand all round.  In the Leafy catalogues better BOP1s/OP1s together with the cleaner Below Best teas sold at firm to dearer rates.  OP/OPAs too were firm with the teas at the bottom end of the market strengthening.  Pekoes too particularly the bolder types met with improved demand and gained Rs.10-15 per kg.  In the Tippy catalogues too FBOPs together with the FF1s were dearer.  Cleaner secondaries too gained on last.  Better made  FFs too were generally dearer to previous although the secondary varieties were irregular.  There was good demand from CIS, Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Iran and Dubai.
